This flexible online BA (Hons) top-up course develops business management knowledge with a focus on accounting, finance, governance and risk. It may suit students with an HND in Business or equivalent Level 5 study who want to complete an honours degree while building analytical, financial management and business decision-making skills.

About this course

This online top-up degree is designed for students who have already completed relevant Level 5 business study and want to build towards a BA (Hons) qualification with an Accounting and Finance focus.

The course examines how accounting and finance functions operate within organisations, including the technologies used to support them. You will consider financial management, financial and business risk, corporate governance, and the legal and ethical context affecting domestic and international organisations.

Alongside finance-focused study, you will explore business transformation, entrepreneurship and innovation. Independent study and research and data analysis techniques help you investigate a business issue in depth and communicate evidence-based findings. The course also considers wider business functions, including sales, people management, product development, operations and supply chain management.

Assessment

Assessment may include individual reports, case study analyses, group presentations and independent assignments. You may also be assessed through podcasts, videos, infographics, consultancy reports, campaigns, posters, interviews and debate sessions.

Entry requirements

Applicants need a pass or above in GCSE Mathematics, or an equivalent qualification.

You also need an HND in Business or an equivalent qualification. Your previous learning must be consistent with Level 5 functional areas of business, such as finance, marketing, operations management and human resource management.

English language requirements

English language evidence may include IELTS 6.0 overall, with no element below 5.5, or TOEFL iBT 80. Evidence of previous study taught in English may also be accepted, for example a letter confirming English was the medium of instruction.

The course may support progression into roles such as Business Analyst, Business Development Executive, Buying Assistant, Accounting Technician, Actuarial Analyst, Company Secretary or Stockbroker. It may also be relevant for people aiming to work as managers or develop an entrepreneurial venture.
