BA (Hons) Business Studies with Foundation Year

This full-time BA (Hons) Business Studies course includes a foundation year and takes four years to complete. It is suitable for adults returning to education who want to build academic and professional skills before progressing to degree-level business study. You will study business operations, decision-making, marketing, accounting, human resources, law and ethics, digital business, entrepreneurship, international business and strategy.

About this course

This four-year full-time Business Studies degree includes a foundation year designed to prepare you for undergraduate study. It introduces the context of business, communication, numeracy, data analysis and information technology, alongside study skills and professional skills for the digital age.

As the course progresses, you will examine how organisations operate and make decisions. Topics include marketing management, organisational theory, business law and ethics, human resource management, accounting, digital business, entrepreneurship and international business.

In the later stages, you will develop research and strategic management skills. You will consider global strategy, sustainable organisations and contemporary management issues, then complete either a dissertation or a business project.

Assessment

Assessment is through presentations, assignments and report writing.

Entry requirements

Applicants need five GCSE passes or a NARIC-confirmed equivalent.

All applicants are assessed through an interview and a Pre-Qualifying Test.

Non-standard applicants may be considered where their work or life experience demonstrates suitability for undergraduate study. Evidence may include substantial relevant work experience, the ability to pass examinations and an independent business reference.

English language requirements

UK nationals and EU applicants who meet the relevant qualifying criteria do not need to provide formal evidence of English language ability.

Applicants whose first language is not English need English at CEFR Level B1. Applicants using the non-standard entry route also need a reasonable command of English at CEFR Level B1.
