BA (Hons) Criminology with Law
BA (Hons) Criminology with Law is an online, flexible part-time degree studied over three years or more. It brings together criminology and law, with a focus on crime, criminal behaviour, policing, victimology and the criminal justice system. It may suit adults returning to study who want to explore how crime is understood, prevented and addressed through legal and justice systems.
About this course
This online BA (Hons) Criminology with Law examines crime, criminal behaviour and the legal systems that respond to it. You will consider the political, psychological and social factors linked to crime, alongside the causes and patterns of offending and the legal consequences that can follow.
The course combines criminological study with UK and international law. Topics include the English legal system, civil liberties, policing, youth crime, victimology, prisons, miscarriages of justice and crimes committed by powerful individuals or organisations. You will also explore how the criminal justice system works, including approaches to crime prevention and response.
Designed for flexible, part-time online study over three years or more, the course develops legal, analytical and research skills. A research project provides an opportunity to investigate a criminology or law-related topic in depth.

Assessment
Assessment methods include assignments, essays, reports, presentations, case studies, portfolios of work, roleplay, interactive decision-making activities and a research proposal.
Entry requirements
Applicants normally need two GCE A levels or equivalent qualifications, plus GCSE passes at grade C or above (or equivalent) in three subjects.
Alternatively, applicants may have completed a recognised Access Programme or equivalent.
Non-standard entry may be considered for applicants with relevant work experience requiring critical thinking and analytical skills. This route requires a personal statement, references and evidence of previous work experience.
English language requirements
English language proficiency can be demonstrated through IELTS 6.0 overall, with no element below 5.5; TOEFL iBT 80; an equivalent English-language qualification; or evidence of previous study in English, such as a letter confirming English as the medium of instruction.
Careers
This course may support progression into roles across policing, the prison service, probation, community justice, paralegal work and the wider criminal justice sector. It may also be relevant to work in charities, NGOs, government, the Home Office or education.
