About this course

This four-year BSc (Hons) includes a foundation year designed to build academic, communication, digital and business skills before degree-level study. It then develops knowledge of accounting principles, financial management and the organisational, legal and ethical contexts in which accounting professionals work.

You will study financial and management accounting, financial reporting, performance management, audit and assurance, UK taxation, corporate governance and corporate law. The course also considers managerial finance, strategic decision-making, business environments and professional ethics.

In the final stage, you will complete a dissertation or research project, using research methods to investigate an accounting and finance topic. The course includes listed professional-body exemption arrangements with the Institute of Financial Accountants, the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

What you will study

The foundation year covers academic skills for higher education, communication and digital skills, introductory management and financial accounting, business and ethical awareness, and a foundation-year project.

Degree-level modules include Introduction to Business Accounting, Financial Accounting, Management Accounting 1 and 2, Financial Reporting, Performance Management, Financial Management, Audit and Assurance, UK Taxation, Corporate Governance and Leadership, Business and Corporate Law, and Professional Accountant and IT Systems.

You will also study ethics and corporate social responsibility, research methods, contemporary issues in accounting and finance, and complete a dissertation or research project.

Modules

Assessment

Assessment includes formative and summative work. Methods include written examinations, coursework, reports, portfolios, essays and presentations.

Entry requirements

Applicants must be aged 18 or over.

Standard entry requires a Level 3 qualification equivalent to 60 credits or 80 UCAS tariff points, plus five GCSEs at grade 4/C or above, or equivalent.

Applicants also complete an interview assessment of listening, speaking, numeracy and writing.

Applicants aged 21 or over who do not meet the standard entry requirements may still apply if they can demonstrate willingness and commitment, alongside relevant academic, professional or vocational experience.

English language requirements

English language skills are assessed through an interview covering listening, speaking and writing.
