About this course

This degree combines business study with legal knowledge relevant to commercial organisations. You will examine how businesses are organised and managed, alongside the laws and regulations that affect companies, consumers, contracts and international trade.

The course covers business strategy, finance, economics, human resources, marketing and information management. In law, you will study foundations of law, obligations, business organisations, commercial law and international trade law. Themes including globalisation, sustainability and social change are considered in relation to business practice.

A foundation year is available for students who would benefit from additional preparation before starting degree-level study. It develops academic, digital and professional skills, while introducing law, international relations and sustainable business. The final stage includes a major project focused on leadership in practice.

The course brings together business organisation and management culture, strategic consumer behaviour, corporate and consumer legislation, corporate regulation, marketing, information management and legal advocacy.

Modules

Assessment

Assessment may include coursework, group and activity-based assignments, examinations, management reports, sales presentations, company report analysis, problem-solving activities, projects, presentations, reports and advocacy exercises. The course also includes a major project.

Entry requirements

Applicants typically need 96 UCAS Tariff points from three A levels, such as BCC.

Alternative qualifications include the Irish Leaving Certificate (BBCCC), Scottish Highers (BBCCC), a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at DMM in a business-related subject, or the International Baccalaureate Diploma with 24 points.

You will also need at least three GCSEs at grade 4/C or above, including English and Maths.

International applicants may be considered with GCE A levels from a recognised UK examination board, an International Baccalaureate Diploma with at least 24 points, a recognised university foundation course, or relevant qualifications gained in their home country.

For mature applicants, relevant work experience may be considered.

English language requirements

IELTS Academic 6.0 or an equivalent English-language qualification recognised by the course provider.

Careers

The course may support progression into business, commercial and legal-related roles, including company secretary, data analyst, advice worker and roles in banking, commerce or local and central government. Graduates interested in becoming a solicitor, barrister or patent attorney would normally need to complete further required training and meet the relevant professional entry requirements. Teaching may also be an option with additional qualifications.
