BSc (Hons) Business and Tourism Management

This full-time BSc (Hons) Business and Tourism Management degree examines the business side of tourism, hospitality and events. It covers finance, marketing, customer service, people management, quality and strategy. The course may suit students who want to build management knowledge for visitor economy and service-based organisations. It is available as a three-year degree or a four-year route with a foundation year.

About this course

This degree combines business management with the operational and customer-focused areas of tourism, hospitality and events. You will explore how organisations plan services, manage people and finance, market their offer, and maintain quality in visitor-facing settings.

The course considers the hospitality, tourism and events environment alongside tourism management, customer service and human resources. It also addresses sustainability, contemporary issues in tourism, and ethical practice in business and tourism management, including corporate social responsibility and professional codes of conduct.

You will develop academic, digital and professional skills, then apply your learning through a Live Project and a major project focused on leadership in practice. A four-year route with a foundation year is available for students who need additional preparation before starting degree-level study.

Assessment

Assessment may include assignments, coursework, presentations, a written management report, analysis of a company report, a Live Project and an undergraduate major project.

Entry requirements

Typical entry requirements include 96 UCAS Tariff points from three A levels, such as BCC; an Irish Leaving Certificate at BBCCC; Scottish Highers at BBCCC; a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at DMM in a business-related subject; or 24 points in the International Baccalaureate Diploma.

Applicants also need at least three GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, including English and Maths. Other accepted routes may include GCE A levels from a recognised UK examination board, a recognised university foundation course, or relevant qualifications gained in an applicant's home country.

Mature applicants may be able to demonstrate suitable relevant work experience.

English language requirements

IELTS 6.0 at Academic level, or an equivalent English language qualification.

This course may support progression into roles such as tour manager, travel agency manager, tourist information centre manager, tourism officer, event manager, hotel manager, customer service manager, marketing executive or holiday representative.
