BSc (Hons) Computing
BSc (Hons) Computing is a full-time degree covering the technical and professional skills used in computing and IT. It may suit adults returning to study who want to build knowledge of programming, software development, databases, networks and cybersecurity. You can study the degree over three years, or take a four-year route with a Foundation Year.
About this course
This computing degree develops a broad technical foundation in programming, software development, databases, networks and information systems security. You will learn how computing systems are designed, built, managed and protected, while developing practical data and problem-solving skills.
Alongside core technical subjects, the course considers business intelligence, digital technologies and enterprise systems. It also addresses responsible technology practice, including cybersecurity, data protection, ethical use of data and sustainability in IT project management.
Research, writing and professional development are included to help you communicate technical work clearly. The course concludes with a major computing project, allowing you to apply your learning to a substantial piece of work.
Full-time study is available over three years, or four years with a Foundation Year.

Assessment
Assessment methods include written and practical exams, coursework, in-class tests, assignments, presentations, projects, essays, reports and portfolios. You will also complete a major computing project.
Entry requirements
For the three-year degree, applicants need 104 UCAS tariff points. Level 3 subjects can be in any subject area.
Applicants also need five GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, or an equivalent qualification, including English and Mathematics.
For entry with a Foundation Year, applicants need 48 UCAS tariff points.
English language requirements
Applicants using International or EU qualifications need IELTS 6.0 overall, or an equivalent qualification, with at least 5.5 in each component.

This course may support progression into areas such as software development, IT consulting, data management and cybersecurity. Potential roles may include software developer, cybersecurity analyst, IT support specialist, database administrator, web developer, data analyst, cloud computing specialist or IT project manager.
