About this course

This degree combines cyber security with artificial intelligence, covering the technical and organisational aspects of protecting computer systems, networks, software and data. You will study cyber security principles alongside programming, network security, digital forensics, cryptography and security operations.

The course also examines how data and AI can be used in cyber security. Topics include applied AI for cyber security, software security, ethical hacking, governance, risk and compliance. An individual project gives you the opportunity to bring together what you have learned in a substantial piece of work.

A four-year route with a foundation year is available for applicants who need to build their academic and computing skills before progressing to degree-level study. The foundation year includes computer, research and communication skills, as well as professional development in computing.

Assessment

Assessment includes coursework, group assignments, activity-based assignments, exams, problem-solving activities, projects and presentations.

Entry requirements

Standard entry requires 96 UCAS Tariff points from three A levels or an equivalent qualification, such as CCC at A level. Other accepted routes include the Irish Leaving Certificate at BBCCC, Scottish Highers at BBCCC, a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at DMM in a related subject, or 24 points from the International Baccalaureate Diploma.

You will also need at least three GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, including English and Maths.

For the foundation-year route, a minimum of 40 UCAS Tariff points is required.

Applicants who meet either the foundation or standard entry criteria and have been out of study for five years must pass an academic interview.

Level 3 entry may be considered where an applicant does not meet the normal requirements but can demonstrate the necessary knowledge, skills and potential to benefit from the course, for example through relevant work experience and professional development.

For non-standard mature entry (age 21+), applicants need an Ofqual-recognised academic Level 3 qualification, or a Level 2 qualification in the intended field plus work experience in that field within the previous five years. An academic interview is required.

English language requirements

IELTS Academic 6.0 or an equivalent English language qualification.

This course may support progression into roles such as Cyber Security Analyst, Forensic Computer Analyst, Security Manager, Network Engineer, Penetration Tester, AI Security Engineer, AI Product Manager, AI Compliance Officer, Data Scientist or Machine Learning Engineer.
