BSc (Hons) Health and Care Management

This degree is for people who want to understand the management of health and care services. It covers leadership, service-user needs, public health, finance, quality management, digital health and the use of data in planning. It may suit those seeking to build management knowledge for roles across health, social care, public health or service improvement.

About this course

BSc (Hons) Health and Care Management examines how health and care services are planned, led, funded and improved. It brings together management, public health, ethics, finance, digital health and quality improvement, with attention to the needs and experiences of service users.

You will develop an understanding of multidisciplinary working and the practical decisions involved in managing resources, supporting dignity and respect, communicating across professional roles, and using evidence to guide service development. The course also considers health promotion, planetary and global health, sustainability, health analytics, and the role of digital leadership in care settings.

The full-time blended route takes three years. An online part-time route is available over three to nine years, which may suit students balancing study with work or other commitments.

Assessment

Assessment includes essays, presentations, personal development plans and reflections on practice. You may also complete analysis reports, podcasts, a Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection resource, a leadership consultancy report, a portfolio of finance tasks and calculations, critical case study reviews and CARS checklist analysis. Digital badges are also used as part of assessment.

Entry requirements

Applicants normally need two GCE A levels or equivalent, plus three GCSEs at grade C/4 or above (or equivalent).

Applicants with relevant work experience may also be considered. This route requires a personal statement, references and evidence of previous work experience.

English language requirements

IELTS 6.0 or equivalent, with no element below 5.5. Evidence of previous study in English may also be accepted, such as a letter confirming that English was the medium of instruction.

This degree may support progression into health service management, social care Registered Manager roles, and service implementation, improvement or transformation. Other possible areas include health and care funding applications, strategy, communications and engagement, partnership working, workforce development, training needs management, patient or service-user experience, quality assessment, public health initiatives, digital health enterprises and data planning.
