BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care
This BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care course provides a broad understanding of health, wellbeing and care services. It covers the factors affecting people’s health, the responsibilities of care professionals, and the systems used to organise and regulate services. It may suit adults looking to build knowledge for work or further training in health, care, community or support-focused roles. A foundation year route is available for applicants who do not meet the entry requirements for the three-year degree route.
About this course
This BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care course examines how health and care services are organised, delivered and developed. You will consider health and social care principles and practices alongside the social, political, ethical and global contexts that shape people’s access to care.
The course explores human development across the lifespan, including biological, psychological and sociological influences. You will study human anatomy and physiology, health and wellbeing, significant life events, resilience, inequalities and social justice. It also considers how lifestyle and environmental factors can affect health and decisions about seeking care.
You will develop an understanding of professional roles, safeguarding, risk assessment and safe working practices in health and social care settings. Later study includes leadership and change management, comparative healthcare systems, and an undergraduate major project in a health and social care context.
A three-year full-time route is available, alongside a four-year full-time route with a foundation year. The foundation year includes introductory study in research, writing, data skills and professional development.

Assessment
Assessment methods include written and practical examinations, coursework, in-class tests, assignments, presentations, projects, essays, reports, portfolios and an undergraduate major project.
Entry requirements
For the three-year degree route, applicants need 104 UCAS points. Level 3 qualifications in any subjects are accepted.
Applicants also need five GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, or equivalent, including English and Mathematics.
For the foundation year route, applicants need 48 UCAS points.
English language requirements
Applicants with international or EU qualifications need IELTS 6.0 or an equivalent qualification, with at least 5.5 in each component.
Careers
This course may support progression into roles such as care coordinator, community outreach worker, rehabilitation assistant, social prescribing link worker, charity officer, health administrator or health advisor. It may also provide a foundation for work or further training in care management, health therapies, youth work, social work and further education training.
