BSc (Hons) Psychology with Foundation Year
This is a four-year, full-time blended BSc (Hons) Psychology degree with an integrated foundation year. It may suit adults returning to education who want to build their academic confidence before progressing to psychology degree study. You will examine key areas of psychology, including social, developmental, biological and cognitive psychology, while learning how to conduct and evaluate psychological research.
About this course
This four-year, full-time blended degree begins with a foundation year designed to help you prepare for degree-level study. You will develop academic skills, explore the social world and social justice, and complete an investigation and innovation project while planning your next steps.
The psychology degree develops your understanding of how people think, feel, develop and behave. You will study social, developmental, biological and cognitive psychology, alongside qualitative and quantitative research methods. Later study considers areas including personality and intelligence, positive psychology, forensic psychology, mental health, behavioural neuroscience, political psychology, cyber psychology, and gender and sexuality.
A research project gives you the opportunity to investigate a psychological topic in depth. The course also includes professional development and can help you build research, analysis, communication and reflective practice skills relevant to a range of people-focused and analytical fields.
What you will study
The foundation year covers preparing for university success, exploring the social world, academic skills, social justice, future planning, and an investigation and innovation project.
Psychology modules include introduction to studying psychology, social psychology, exploring research in psychology, developmental psychology, biological psychology, cognitive psychology, qualitative and quantitative research methods, personality and intelligence, and positive psychology.
Further topics include forensic psychology, occupational psychology, clinical and health psychology, child development and educational psychology, counselling psychology and mental health, behavioural neuroscience and neuropsychology, political psychology, cyber psychology, and gender and sexuality. You will also complete professional development and a research project.

Assessment
Assessment methods include individual reports, case study analyses, role play, group presentations, reflective assignments, independent work and examinations.
Entry requirements
Applicants need a minimum of 45 Level 3 credits completed within the past three years, or an equivalent qualification.
If you do not meet the qualification requirement, you may be considered if you have at least two years of professional work experience, supported by a CV and reference.
You must also provide a personal statement of 350–550 words, or attend an interview, to demonstrate your ability to study on the programme.
English language requirements
IELTS 6.0 overall, with no element below 5.5; or TOEFL iBT 80. Evidence of previous study in English may also be accepted, such as a letter confirming English as the medium of instruction.
Careers
This degree may support progression into areas such as mental health support, counselling, psychotherapy, social work, nursing, human resources, careers advice, data analysis, journalism, marketing and advertising, or policing. Some roles may require further training, professional registration or postgraduate study.
