BSc (Hons) Public Health (Top-up) – Level 5 Entry
This is a two-year, full-time BSc (Hons) Public Health top-up degree for students entering at Level 5 with appropriate Level 4 credits. It covers population health, health inequalities, epidemiology, health protection, health behaviour and public health policy, alongside research methods and a dissertation.
About this course
This Level 5 entry top-up degree develops an understanding of how health is shaped across populations and throughout the life course. You will consider health improvement, illness prevention, health protection and the wider determinants that contribute to unequal health outcomes and healthy life expectancy.
The course combines public health theory with research and analytical skills. You will work with evidence, develop confidence in handling and interpreting health-related data, and examine epidemiology, health behaviour, policy and strategy. Global public health, sustainable and systems thinking, and collaborative practice are also explored.
A dissertation provides the opportunity to undertake independent research in a public health-related area. The course may suit learners who already hold appropriate Level 4 study in public health or a related subject and want to build towards an honours degree.

Entry requirements
Entry at Level 5 requires 120 appropriate Level 4 credits, such as a CertHE in Public Health.
External applicants must meet the standard entry requirements that apply to the course.
Non-standard entry may be considered for applicants with substantial relevant work experience, the ability to pass examinations, an independent employment reference and a reasonable command of English.
English language requirements
For non-standard entry at Level 4 or above, applicants need English language ability at CEFR Level B2, evidenced through an independent external examination.

This course may support progression into roles allied to public health and within the wider health and wellbeing economy. Potential areas include specialist public health, health research, and work in public, commercial, voluntary or charitable-sector organisations.
