Business and Financial Management with Foundation Year BSc (Hons)

About this course

This degree combines business management with financial decision-making. You will examine how organisations raise, manage and invest money, while developing an understanding of financial markets, corporate finance, budgeting, risk and business strategy.

Alongside finance, the course considers the wider business environment. Topics include marketing, human resource management, entrepreneurship, leadership and change management, sustainability, and diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility (DEIA). You will also explore ethical and cultural dimensions of business.

The course develops practical analytical and professional skills through financial statements, company analysis, management reporting and a major project in business and financial analysis. A four-year route includes a foundation year designed to build academic, data, digital and study skills before progressing to degree-level study.

Assessment

Assessment methods include assignments, written management reports, company report analysis, presentations, case-study projects, simulations and project work.

Entry requirements

For the three-year full-time route, you need 96 UCAS Tariff points from three A Levels, such as BCC, or an accepted equivalent. Equivalent qualifications include the Irish Leaving Certificate (BBCCC), Scottish Highers (BBCCC), a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at DMM in a business-related subject, or the International Baccalaureate Diploma with 24 points.

You also need at least three GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, including English and Maths.

For the four-year full-time route with foundation year, you need five GCSEs at grade D/3 or above, including English and Maths, plus evidence of two years of post-GCSE Level 3 study. If you have at least grade E in one A Level, or an equivalent qualification, you do not need to provide evidence of the two years of Level 3 study, but you must still meet the GCSE requirements.

International applicants may be considered with GCE A Levels from a recognised UK examination board, the International Baccalaureate with at least 24 points, a recognised university foundation course, or relevant qualifications gained in their home country.

English language requirements

If English is not your first language, you will need IELTS Academic 6.0 or an equivalent recognised English language qualification.

Careers

This course may support progression into roles such as financial manager or controller, financial analyst, financial adviser, private wealth adviser, portfolio manager, fintech adviser, quantitative analyst, or retail and investment banker. With experience, it may also support progression towards senior finance roles, including chief financial officer.
