CertHE Business Studies with Foundation

This is a two-year, full-time Certificate in Higher Education in Business Studies with a foundation stage. It provides a route into higher education for students who need to develop academic and business skills before studying at CertHE level. You will study business organisations, the business environment, communication, data analysis, digital technology, marketing and leadership. The course may suit adults returning to education who want a structured introduction to business and management.

About this course

This CertHE combines a Level 0 foundation stage with introductory higher education study in business. It is designed for learners who want to build academic confidence before progressing into business-focused study.

You will examine how organisations operate, including their aims, functions, ethical and legal responsibilities, and the wider global business environment. The course also develops practical skills in communication, digital technologies, numeracy, data analysis and presenting business information.

Alongside business knowledge, you will explore organisational behaviour, modern business practices, marketing, leadership and professional skills for the digital age. The foundation element supports the development of study skills needed for higher education.

Entry requirements

You will normally need five GCSE passes, or an equivalent qualification confirmed through NARIC.

All applicants are assessed through an admissions interview covering listening, speaking and reading, and a personal statement used to assess writing.

Non-standard applicants may be considered where they have substantial relevant work experience, can demonstrate the ability to pass examinations, provide an independent employment reference and meet the English language requirements.

English language requirements

UK nationals and qualifying EU applicants do not need to provide formal proof of English.

Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate English at CEFR Level B1 through an admissions interview and assessment of their personal statement.

For non-standard entry at Level 0, evidence of CEFR Level B1 English through an independent external examination is required.
