About this course
This CertHE provides an introduction to the health and social care sector and the factors that shape care provision. You will consider political, social and legal influences on services, alongside care policy, safeguarding, health and wellbeing, and contemporary health issues.
The course also addresses changes affecting the sector, including technology in the fourth industrial revolution, diversity and inclusion, sustainability and net-zero aims. You will develop academic, research and professional skills for higher education and for working with people from different professional backgrounds.
Study is full-time over one year. It may suit adults with relevant care experience who want to formalise their knowledge, build confidence in academic study or prepare for further study and progression in health and social care.

Entry requirements
Applicants must meet the standard entry requirements for undergraduate study.
Non-standard applicants are considered individually and may be invited to a face-to-face interview. Mature applicants should provide a CV, personal statement and supporting evidence of relevant, extensive work experience and relevant professional qualifications. Relevant work experience must be substantial in nature and duration, and an independent employment reference is required.
Interviews and testing, including appropriate entrance examinations where agreed, may apply.
English language requirements
For mature applicants, English language evidence can be one of the following: GCSE English at Grade 4 or above; English proficiency at B2 in all four components; or Level 2 Functional Skills. Entry at Level 4 or above may also require CEFR Level B2 demonstrated through an independent external examination.
Careers
The course may support progression within the health and social care sector, including towards supervisory or management roles. Further experience, training or qualifications may be needed depending on the role.
