Certificate of Higher Education in Public Health with Foundation Year
This two-year, full-time Certificate of Higher Education includes a Foundation Year for students who need to develop their academic skills before progressing to higher education-level public health study. It covers public health, health and social care, anatomy and physiology, health inequalities, digital health, wellbeing and the social and environmental influences on health.
About this course
The foundation stage is designed to build the academic, digital, numeracy and communication skills needed for higher education study in health-related subjects. You will consider personal and academic development, human development, anatomy and physiology, and the factors that shape health and wellbeing.
You will then develop an understanding of public health and health and social care systems, including contemporary health issues, lifestyle, environmental influences and health inequalities. The course also explores sociological perspectives on health, collaborative working across professional teams, and digital communication in health contexts.
Through critical thinking, research and communication activities, you will learn to examine health issues from individual, social and environmental perspectives. This may suit adults returning to education who want a structured route into further health, public health or social care study.

Entry requirements
Applicants for the Foundation Year must meet the standard entry requirements for admission.
Applicants without standard qualifications may be considered if they have substantial relevant work experience, can demonstrate the ability to pass examinations, provide an independent employment reference, and have a reasonable command of English.
English language requirements
For entry at Level 0, English language ability at CEFR Level B1 is required through an independent external examination. For entry at Level 4 or above, CEFR Level B2 is required through an independent external examination.
