HND Construction Management for England (Construction Design and Build Technician)

About this course

This HND develops knowledge of how construction projects are designed, planned, procured and managed. It combines technical construction subjects with the commercial, legal and organisational responsibilities involved in delivering building projects.

You will examine construction technology for both standard and complex buildings, produce and interpret construction drawings and detailing, and use digital construction information systems including building information modelling (BIM). The course also addresses tendering, procurement, contracts, financial management and statutory responsibilities.

Later study considers project management, sustainable construction methods, maintenance and operations, and personal professional development. The course may suit adults seeking to build or formalise their knowledge for a technical, supervisory or co-ordination role in construction design and build.

Modules

Assessment

Assessment includes presentations with observation records, reports and project reports, in-class and time-constrained assessments, work-based projects, practical assessments, professional discussions, interview or role-play recordings, and CAD drawings with specifications. You may also complete assignments, essays, case-study analysis, portfolios of evidence, logbooks and reflective journals.

Entry requirements

Applicants must be aged 18 or over and normally need a Level 3 qualification or an Access to Higher Education certificate. An academic interview is also required.

Applicants aged 21 or over who do not meet the standard entry requirements may still apply where they can demonstrate willingness and commitment, alongside relevant academic, professional or vocational experience.

English language requirements

GCSE English at grade 4/C or CEFR level B2 is required. Applicants without this qualification may be able to take an English test.
