About this course
The HND in Health and Social Care Practice develops knowledge of care delivery alongside the professional skills needed to work effectively in health and care environments. You will consider public health, compassionate and values-based care, professional responsibilities, evidence-based decision-making and planning care around individual needs.
The course also examines how quality is maintained and improved in care services. You will explore leadership, teamwork, communication, mentoring, coaching and change management, as well as participatory action research as a way to identify and respond to issues in practice.
A work placement forms part of the two-year course, giving you the opportunity to connect academic learning with workplace practice. This may suit adults returning to education who want to develop or formalise their experience for progression in health and social care.

Assessment
Assessment may include presentations supported by observation records, reports and project reports, in-class and time-constrained assessments, work-based projects, professional discussions, interview or role-play recordings, logbooks and reflective journals, essays, assignments, and case study analysis.
Entry requirements
Applicants must be aged 18 or over and hold a Level 3 qualification or an Access to Higher Education certificate. You must also pass an academic interview.
If you are aged 21 or over and do not meet the standard entry requirements, you may still apply if you can demonstrate willingness and commitment and provide evidence of relevant academic, professional or vocational experience.
An Enhanced DBS check is normally required before the course begins. A CV must also be submitted before starting.
English language requirements
English language ability is required at GCSE grade 4/C or CEFR level B2. Applicants who do not hold one of these qualifications may be able to take an English test.
Careers
This course may support progression into health and social care roles in private, social or public healthcare settings. Possible areas include care coordination, senior care work, team leadership, residential care supervision, patient services, practice or clinic administration, community health, health education, rehabilitation support, family support, quality and compliance, social care auditing, and service facilitation.
With relevant experience, graduates may work towards roles such as care home manager, care team leader, public health officer, health education coordinator, wellness project assistant or support worker manager.
