International Business Management with Foundation Year BSc (Hons)

This business management degree focuses on operating across international markets. It covers global business, market analysis, emerging markets, intercultural working and sustainable business practice. You will combine international business topics with core subjects such as finance, economics, marketing, law, human resources, operations, information systems and strategy. A four-year foundation year route is available alongside the three-year degree route.

About this course

This degree examines how businesses operate across international markets and how managers respond to competition, cultural differences and changing economic conditions. You will consider global business environments, market analysis, emerging markets and the role of sustainability in international business decision-making.

Alongside international business management, the course builds knowledge of core business functions including finance, economics, marketing, human resources, business law, operations, information systems and strategy. You will also explore responsible and sustainable entrepreneurship, helping you consider the wider social and environmental effects of business activity.

The course includes skills development in communication, data, research, academic work and professional practice. In the final stage, you will undertake an undergraduate major project, bringing together your learning through an extended piece of independent work.

Full-time study is available over three years, or four years with a foundation year. The foundation year route may suit applicants who need to build academic, research and professional skills before progressing to degree-level business study.

Core business subjects include Business Finance, Economics for Business, Business Environment, Managing Human Resources, Principles and Practice of Marketing, Legal Aspects of Business, Business Information Systems, Business Strategy, Managing International Business, and Operational and Project Management.

Skills-focused modules include Communication Skills, Data Skills, Professional Development Skills, Research Skills, and Academic and Professional Skills. The course also includes an Undergraduate Major Project.

Assessment

Assessment may include written and practical examinations, in-class tests, coursework, assignments, presentations, projects, essays, reports and portfolios. You will also complete an undergraduate major project.

Entry requirements

For the three-year degree route, applicants need 104 points. Level 3 subjects can be in any subject area.

Applicants also need five GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, or an equivalent qualification, including English and Mathematics.

For the foundation year route, applicants need 48 points for a foundation degree.

English language requirements

IELTS 6.0 overall, or an accepted equivalent, with a minimum of 5.5 in each band for undergraduate study.

Careers

This course may support progression into roles in general management, retail management, human resources, marketing, customer service management, advertising, merchandising, logistics and supply chain management. It may also be relevant to work across business finance, enterprise, business law, accountancy, and public, private or voluntary-sector organisations.
