International Foundation Programme – Law
This is a nine-month, full-time online foundation programme for students preparing for further study in law. It covers Legal English, academic and research skills, practical numeracy, and core legal topics including the law of England and Wales, EU law, international law and human rights law. It may suit students who have completed secondary education and need preparation before progressing to law-related higher education.
About this course
This online foundation programme is designed to prepare students for further study in law. It combines academic English, study skills and practical numeracy with an introduction to key legal concepts and legal research.
You will examine the sources of law in England and Wales, case law and legal precedent, European Union law, international law and human rights law. The course also develops the skills needed to work with legal materials, including OSCOLA referencing, academic writing and oral presentations.
Alongside legal study, you will build confidence with data, statistics, equations, algebra and probability. A research project provides an opportunity to apply research and writing skills to a focused area of study.

Topics include academic writing, oral presentation skills, Legal English and OSCOLA referencing. You will also study mathematical and statistical concepts, including data and statistics, equations, algebra and probability.

Assessment
Assessment includes coursework, in-class tests and formal examinations.
Entry requirements
Successful completion of secondary education is required, typically representing at least 11 years of education.
English language requirements
English language proficiency equivalent to IELTS 5.0 or above is required, with a minimum of 4.5 in each component.
