LLB (Hons) Law with Foundation Year
This blended, full-time LLB (Hons) Law with Foundation Year runs over four years. The foundation year supports preparation for university study before you move into core legal subjects. You will study the English legal system alongside public, criminal, tort, contract, land and equity law, then develop knowledge of legal practice, dispute resolution and specialist legal areas. The course may suit adults returning to education who want a structured route into an undergraduate law degree.
About this course
This four-year blended LLB (Hons) includes a foundation year designed to prepare you for degree-level law study. It is suited to applicants who need an alternative route into higher education or want to strengthen their academic skills before beginning the main law degree.
The foundation year develops university-study skills while introducing social issues and social justice. You will then build knowledge of the English legal system and core areas of law, including public law, tort, criminal law, contract law, land law, and equity and trusts.
Later study considers dispute resolution, civil liberties, technology and innovation in legal practice, business law, property practice and EU law. You can also explore specialist subjects such as employment law, family law, international commercial law and public international law, alongside substantial independent legal research.
What you will study
The foundation year includes Preparing for University Success, Exploring the Social World, Advancing your Academic Skills, Examining Social Justice, Planning for Your Future Success, and an Investigation & Innovation Project.
Law modules include English Legal System and Skills, Public Law, Tort 1 and 2, Crime 1 and 2, Civil Liberties in Practice, Contract Law, Land Law and Practical Skills, and Equity, Trusts and Wills.
Further study includes Dispute Resolution, Technology, Innovation and the Law, Business Law and Practice, Solicitors Professional Practice, Property Practice and EU Law. Optional or later-stage subjects include Employment Law, International Commercial Law, Family Law and Public International Law. You will also complete a Legal Research Project and Legal Dissertation. A Placement and Pro Bono module may be available, subject to eligibility.

Assessment
Assessment methods include multiple-choice examinations, advocacy tasks, portfolios, drafting exercises and coursework.
Entry requirements
Standard entry requires a minimum of 45 Level 3 credits completed within the last three years, or an equivalent qualification.
Non-standard entry requires at least two years of appropriate and relevant work experience, or equivalent. Applicants must also provide a personal statement, references, and evidence of relevant experience and/or previous qualifications.
English language requirements
Applicants need to meet one of the following English-language requirements: IELTS 5.5 overall, with no component below 5.0; TOEFL iBT 80; an equivalent English-language qualification; or evidence of previous study taught in English, such as a letter confirming English as the medium of instruction.
Careers
The course may support progression towards legal careers such as solicitor, barrister, paralegal, legal executive or legal secretary. It may also be relevant to work in private practice, journalism, policing, politics, teaching and academia, tax consultancy, or business consultancy.
