This LLM focuses on the legal and practical issues involved in compliance and regulation. It examines how regulatory systems operate, how organisations manage their obligations, and how enforcement, accountability and ethics affect regulated activity. It may suit graduates interested in compliance, risk, financial services or regulation across national and international settings.

About this course

The LLM Compliance and Regulation examines how rules are created, applied and enforced across regulated sectors. It considers regulatory frameworks alongside the legal, economic and political factors that shape them, with attention to risk regulation, standard setting, accountability and legitimacy.

You will explore compliance and enforcement strategies, multi-level and transnational regulation, and how organisations respond to regulatory duties, ethics and whistleblowing. Optional legal subjects include insurance law, international energy law, environmental law, and data protection and intellectual property.

The course also develops legal research skills and includes a dissertation in compliance and regulation. It is available full-time, part-time and online, which may suit graduates balancing study with work or other commitments.

Entry requirements

A minimum second-class honours degree is required.
