LLM Construction Law

This LLM examines the law and contracts that underpin construction projects, with particular attention to FIDIC and NEC contract frameworks. It may suit graduates seeking to develop specialist knowledge of construction law, dispute resolution and international legal issues in the construction sector.

About this course

This LLM focuses on the legal, contractual and commercial issues that arise in construction projects. It examines construction law alongside the contracts used to manage project responsibilities, risk and performance, including FIDIC International Conditions Silver Book and the Engineering and Construction Contract (NEC).

You will consider vicarious performance, insolvency and dispute resolution, as well as the English legal system and international construction law. The course also addresses the economic and political context of construction law and the growing role of legal technology.

Research methods training supports the completion of a dissertation in construction law. Study is available full-time, part-time or online.

Core modules are Construction Law, Research Methods Training and a Dissertation in Construction Law.

Topics include construction contracts; vicarious performance and insolvency; FIDIC International Conditions Silver Book; the Engineering and Construction Contract (NEC); dispute resolution; the English legal system; legal technology; international construction law; and economics and politics in construction law.

Assessment

Assessment includes a three-hour unseen written examination, a coursework assignment and a thesis submission.

Entry requirements

A minimum second-class honours degree is required.
