LLM Data Protection and Intellectual Property
This LLM is for graduates who want to examine the legal issues surrounding data, privacy, digital security and intellectual property. It covers the regulation of information and online commercial activity alongside research methods and an independent dissertation. It may suit those interested in legal, compliance, policy or technology-related work.
About this course
This LLM examines the legal, ethical and regulatory issues created by the digital economy. It brings together data protection, privacy and cybersecurity with intellectual property law, helping you consider how information, innovation and commercial activity are regulated.
You will explore areas including non-personal data laws, confidentiality, database laws, torts relating to privacy, electronic signatures and electronic contracting practices. The course also develops legal research skills and includes a substantial dissertation in data protection and intellectual property.
Full-time study is available over 12 months. Part-time study is available over 24 months at selected locations.

Assessment
Assessment includes a three-hour unseen written examination, a 4,500-word coursework assignment and a 15,000-word thesis.
Entry requirements
A UK bachelor’s degree with a 2:2 classification or above, or an equivalent qualification.
English language requirements
English language ability equivalent to IELTS 6.5 or above, with at least 6.0 in each component.
