LLM Insolvency Law

This LLM focuses on the legal framework governing insolvency and financial distress in the UK and across borders. It may suit graduates seeking to deepen their understanding of corporate rescue, insolvency finance, creditor rights, directors’ responsibilities and related regulatory issues.

About this course

This LLM examines insolvency law in the UK, with particular attention to the legal and financial issues that arise when companies or states experience financial distress. You will consider corporate rescue, out-of-court workouts, access to finance, capital and credit markets, and the rules governing priority in insolvency.

The course also explores cross-border insolvency, directors’ duties, employee rights and the competing interests of creditors, employees, shareholders and other stakeholders. Broader themes include sovereign debt, financial crises and the role of legal technology in insolvency practice.

Research methods training supports the development of independent legal research skills. You will apply these skills through a substantial dissertation in insolvency law. Study is available full-time, part-time or online.
