LLM Legal Ethics

This LLM focuses on the ethical, professional and regulatory issues that shape legal practice. It may suit law graduates who want to examine the responsibilities of lawyers and the changing role of the legal profession. The course combines legal ethics with research methods and an independent dissertation, and is available full-time, part-time or online.

About this course

This LLM examines legal ethics as a practical and theoretical area of law. It considers the duties and responsibilities of lawyers, the regulation of the legal profession, and the social context in which legal professionals work.

You will explore ethical issues affecting in-house lawyers, alongside questions of gender, race and diversity within the profession. The course also considers legal professionalism, legal moralism, ethical theories and the implications of legal technology.

Research methods training supports the development of an independent dissertation in legal ethics. Study is available full-time, part-time or online, with a stated duration of one to two years.

Assessment

Assessment includes a three-hour unseen written examination, a 4,500-word coursework assignment and a thesis submission.

Entry requirements

A minimum second-class honours degree is required.
