LLM Master of Laws (General)
This LLM Master of Laws (General) is available full-time over 12 months or part-time over 24 months. It covers the English legal system, legal technology, research methods and elective legal subject areas, culminating in a dissertation. It may suit graduates who want to develop advanced legal knowledge and independent research skills.
About this course
This general LLM develops understanding of the English legal system while allowing you to explore elective legal subject areas. It combines taught study with legal research training and an extended independent dissertation.
You will examine the principles that underpin the English legal system, consider the role of legal technology, and build research methods skills for postgraduate legal study. The dissertation provides an opportunity to investigate a legal topic in depth and present sustained, evidence-based analysis.
The course may suit law graduates who want to broaden or deepen their legal knowledge, as well as those seeking structured preparation for further legal research.

Assessment
Assessment includes a three-hour unseen written examination, a 4,500-word coursework assignment and a 15,000-word thesis.
Entry requirements
A UK bachelor’s degree with a 2:2 classification or above, or an equivalent qualification.
English language requirements
IELTS 6.5 or above, with a minimum score of 6.0 in each component.
