MA Law (Conversion) is a postgraduate course for graduates from any academic background who want to build a foundation in the main areas of English law. It covers subjects including constitutional law, contract, tort, criminal law, human rights, land law and trusts, with professional skills and a final dissertation. It may suit those considering further legal training or seeking a structured introduction to law.
About this course
This law conversion master's is designed for graduates whose first degree is in a different subject. It provides a structured grounding in the main areas of English law, alongside the legal reasoning, analysis and critical evaluation skills used in legal practice and professional examinations.
You will examine how the legal system operates, including constitutional, administrative and human rights law. The course also covers core private and criminal law subjects, such as contract, tort, land law, equity and trusts, and the law of organisations.
Alongside subject knowledge, the course includes professional skills and behaviours and concludes with a supervised dissertation in law. It is available full-time, part-time and online.

Assessment
Assessment methods include written examinations, 24-hour project reports, coursework, Single Best Answer Question (SBAQ) assessments, oral presentations, oral assessments and a supervised law dissertation.
Entry requirements
Applicants need an undergraduate degree in any discipline, normally at 2:2 classification or above, or an equivalent qualification.
Careers
The course may support progression towards legal training and careers as a solicitor or barrister, subject to meeting the relevant professional and regulatory requirements.
