MA Law (SQE1)
A postgraduate law course covering the foundations of English law and preparation for the SQE1 assessment. It may suit graduates from a law or non-law background who want to develop legal knowledge across public law, private law, property and business law, while studying professional legal skills.
About this course
This MA Law (SQE1) is a postgraduate law course for graduates from any subject who want to build knowledge across the core areas of English law. It combines academic legal study with professional skills and behaviours, alongside preparation for the SQE1 assessment.
You will examine the English legal system, constitutional and EU law, and the rules governing civil and criminal liability. The course also covers public law, human rights, property, trusts and business organisations. Later study focuses on Functioning Legal Knowledge in areas including business, dispute resolution, property practice, wills, solicitors’ accounts and criminal practice.
Full-time, part-time and online study options are available. Part-time availability varies by location.

Assessment
Assessment methods include written examinations, a 24-hour project report, coursework, Single Best Answer Question (SBAQ) assessments, an oral presentation and multiple-choice question papers.
Entry requirements
Applicants need an undergraduate degree in any discipline, awarded at 2:2 or above, or an equivalent qualification.
Careers
The course may support progression towards solicitor qualification, subject to meeting the relevant professional requirements and completing the necessary assessments. It may also be relevant to roles or further development in law, business or politics.
