MSc Psychology (Conversion)
This psychology conversion master's is for graduates whose first degree was in a subject other than psychology. It provides a structured introduction to key psychological perspectives and research methods. You will study neuroscience, cognition, personality, social psychology and lifespan development, alongside professional applications and an independent dissertation.
About this course
This MSc Psychology (Conversion) is designed for graduates from disciplines other than psychology who want to develop a broad grounding in the subject. It examines how people think, behave, develop and interact, while building an understanding of psychological theory, scientific evidence and research methods.
You will explore the biological, cognitive, social and individual aspects of behaviour. Topics include brain and physiological processes, cognition and memory, personality and individual differences, lifespan development, social behaviour, wellbeing, and behaviour change. The course also develops practical research skills through research methods study and an independent dissertation.
Full-time, part-time and online study options are available. The part-time route lasts two calendar years.

Core areas of study include:
• Neuroscience of Behaviour: biological bases of behaviour, including genes, emotion, sleep, memory, physiological signals and brain-imaging techniques. • Cognitive Psychology: human cognition, mental representation, decision making, memory, language and consciousness. • Personality and Individual Differences: personality theory, personality disorders and differences between individuals. • Social and Critical Psychology: social cognition, social constructionism, the self, group performance, decision making and crowd behaviour. • Lifespan Development: psychological development across the lifespan. • Applications of Professional Psychology: decision-making, behaviour change, wellbeing and human performance. • Research Methods: scientific reasoning, evidence and psychological research approaches. • Professional Development. • Dissertation: an independent research project.

Assessment
Assessment methods include presentations, written assignments, group work and studies, projects, and examinations.
Entry requirements
Applicants need an undergraduate degree in any discipline at 2:2 level or above, or an equivalent qualification.
Applicants with an undergraduate psychology degree accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) are not eligible for this programme.
Careers
The course may support progression into psychology-related roles across health, education and sport. It may also provide a foundation for further training towards professional psychology careers, subject to the requirements of the relevant training route.
