The Postgraduate Diploma in Law (PGDL) is a law conversion course for graduates from any academic background who want to gain a foundation in English law. About this course
This law conversion course provides a structured introduction to the core areas of English law for graduates whose first degree was in another subject. It is designed to build the legal knowledge needed to understand how the legal system operates and how key legal principles are applied.
You will examine public and private law, including constitutional and administrative law, human rights, contract, tort and criminal law. The course also covers land law, equity and trusts, and the law of organisations, alongside professional skills and behaviours relevant to legal practice.
Study is available full-time, part-time and online. The course may suit graduates considering further legal training or seeking a broad grounding in English law.
What you will study
You will study the English legal system and constitutional law, including EU law, alongside tort law, contract law and criminal law.
Further subjects include administrative law and human rights, land law, equity and trusts, and the law of organisations, covering company and partnership law. You will also develop professional skills and behaviours for legal practice.

Assessment
Assessment methods include seen written examinations, 24-hour project reports, coursework, Single Best Answer Question (SBAQ) assessments and an oral presentation.
Entry requirements
You will need an undergraduate degree in any discipline, awarded at 2:2 or above, or an equivalent qualification.
Careers
The PGDL may support progression towards further legal training and careers in legal practice, including routes towards becoming a solicitor or barrister.
