Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice (SQE2 & SQE Plus)

This postgraduate diploma prepares you for the practical legal skills assessed in SQE2. It covers interviewing, advocacy, legal research, writing and drafting, alongside case and matter analysis. It may suit graduates who have passed SQE1, have an SQE1 exemption or have completed the LPC, and who want to build further legal practice knowledge through SQE Plus study.

About this course

This postgraduate legal practice course is designed for applicants who have already passed SQE1, hold an SQE1 exemption, or have completed the LPC. It develops the practical legal skills assessed in SQE2, including interviewing clients, advocacy, analysing cases and matters, legal research, legal writing and legal drafting.

Alongside SQE2 preparation, the course includes SQE Plus study to develop knowledge in specialist and commercial areas of practice. Available topics include mergers and acquisitions, debt finance, equity capital markets, dispute resolution, real estate, commercial and international trade, employment, intellectual property and data, insurance, family law, personal injury and clinical negligence, private wealth, criminal practice and immigration.

You will also consider the business of law and complete a legal services research report. Study is available full time at a range of locations, part time at selected locations, or online. Some practice-area options are subject to minimum student numbers.

Core study focuses on SQE2 preparation and practical legal skills: client interviewing, advocacy, case and matter analysis, legal research, legal writing and legal drafting. Practice areas include wills, property, business and criminal law.

Assessment

Assessment includes coursework, timed assessments, a research report and a reflective statement.

Entry requirements

You will need a UK bachelor's degree in any subject at 2:2 or above, or an equivalent qualification.

You must also have passed the SQE1 centralised SRA assessment, hold an SQE1 exemption, or have passed the LPC.

Careers

The course may support progression towards solicitor qualification and legal practice roles, including opportunities with law firms.
