About this course

This MSc Strategic Human Resource Management examines how people strategy contributes to organisational performance. It combines strategic management with core HR areas including employment relations and law, talent resourcing and reward, people development, wellbeing, performance and organisational change.

You will consider how HR professionals use people analytics to create value, make ethical strategic decisions and respond to globalisation, disruptive technologies and changing HR operations. The course also develops research skills through an independent research project in human resource management.

Available through blended study over one year, or online over one year or more, this course may suit professionals seeking to develop strategic HR knowledge or move towards senior people-management responsibilities. The course is accredited by the Chartered Management Institute and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, and is aligned with the Society for Human Resource Management and HRCI.

Assessment

Assessment includes case-based problem-solving exercises, formal reports responding to live client case studies, presentations, skills-based exercises, consultancy case studies, dioramas, autoethnography and a research project.

Entry requirements

Applicants normally need a UK honours degree at a minimum of second-class lower division (2:2), or an equivalent qualification.

Applicants without formal qualifications may be considered where they can demonstrate motivation to study and have relevant work experience.

English language requirements

For online learning, applicants normally need IELTS 6.5 overall, with no element below 6.0; TOEFL iBT 90; or an equivalent qualification.

For blended learning, applicants normally need IELTS 6.0 overall, with no element below 5.5; TOEFL iBT 60–78; or an equivalent qualification.

Evidence of previous study in English, including a letter confirming English as the medium of instruction, may be accepted. Applicants requiring a UK visa need IELTS 6.0 overall, with no element below 5.5, or an equivalent Secure English Language Test (SELT) result.

Careers

The course may support progression into roles such as Human Resource Manager, Human Resource Business Partner, Pay and Reward Specialist, People Consultant, General Manager or organisation development roles. With further experience, it may also support senior HR management positions, including Director of HR or Chief People Officer.
